I took a shower last night!
I'm excited about it because, well, hygiene is one of the most difficult things to keep up with. It's also one of the most important things. However, when you have a child or children it can sometimes be set aside. We often just get in, wash 'the important parts' (as I state it), and get out. But have you ever just gotten in the shower and felt the water trickle down? I mean have you really just gotten in and enjoyed pampering yourself? That's what I want to elaborate on.
I can remember a (simpler) time when my daughter was an infant and I was home alone. I needed to shower, but I couldn't stand the thought of leaving her in her bassinet, let alone in a different room. The best part about a bassinet though, is that it has wheels (thank you, mom, for suggesting it). I left Ava in the bassinet, rolled it into the bathroom and needless to say, I showered.
To anyone else, taking a shower is probably looked at as just a way of life -- something mandatory.
But for new parents far and wide, a shower is a luxury.
Last night when I took my shower, I felt the water. I had time to think, wash ALL my parts and best of all, I enjoyed it. I used to say that taking a shower was where my greatest ideas came from. It's where I got the idea to start this very blog. I wanted to get back to that place.
So you know what I did?
I conjured up a plan on how I could maintain my hygiene while juggling being a mom. I know you're probably thinking, 'don't you have a significant other to help you?' Yes I do. I also like to give him a break every once in a while. He helps me all day long -- even when he knows it's because I was just being lazy.
Anyway, I decided that when she's distracted I would take that moment. While she's sleeping, eating a snack, watching TV, having play time, etc. Then I tried that and found that sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. Sometimes I jump in while she's distracted and then she realizes I've gone and suddenly those little fists are knocking on the door.
I know it sounds bad to have to distract your child so you can get clean, but at times you may feel like it's your only option. If trying to entertain them doesn't work, my only other discretion would be to just go. They might be upset, they'll most likely bang on your door or throw a fit, but you owe it to yourself and others to keep your hygiene in tact.
If you need a shower or have taken one, leave a comment!
